Bonjour, Howdy, Guten Tag, Namaste, Salaam, Merhaba, Olá, Ni Hau or the good ol’ how do you do. Either way, I’m here to say Hello from London town, a city I’ve grown attached to for 22 years of my life.

Who am I? Itty bitty bit of background…

My full name is Faisa Elmi, a humbling but equally cool somali name exclusive to my school teachers and my mother. I answer to Fay; simple, one syllable and easy to remember. I’ve wanted to document my adventures for a while, like Socrates once said, “The only true wisdom, is in knowing you know nothing.” I’m still learning, still growing. I haven’t been everywhere in the world, but the few places I’ve ticked off my bucket list have been the best experiences so far.

In the summer of 2011, I made a gruelling 13 hour journey to a small town in Somaliland with my family. What happened in those 2 years completely and utterly changed my life. Not only did I discover a passion for new cultures, it was an epiphany to the lifestyle I was living, helped shape my innate character, let me develop skills and grow through experience beyond the norm and gave me some amazing memories beyond anyone’s wildest dreams- even some nightmares. That one journey ignited a love for the skies and an attitude of gratitude for everything that I have the opportunity to do, including get on  a plane and fly away, hence the name of the blog- Constant Fernweh.

What do I do?

I dabble in quite abit. I studied to become a Network Engineer. Maths and computers are just my thangggg. But here’s the thing, its like eating your favourite pizza for breakfast, lunch and dinner, snacks in between included, for an entire month non stop. You get sick of it, the idea of pizza makes you angry. I’ve grown a love and hate relationship with IT now. I read once “If you love what you do, you never work a single day in your life”. The inverse is similarly factual. I’m also loosely involved in Real Estate, build my own networking marketing business on the side, and get on a plane when I can. I’ve had the pleasure of working with HPE several times, amongst many other achievements and awards over the past 3 years.

I love travelling. I live for new heart wrenching thrills, the blood coursing through my body in the midst of doing something crazy, being humbled and reminded of my blessing, crossing new cultures,or challenging myself to something totally new. It’s crazy to think there’s a whole world out there with 7.5 billion people living so differently to me, that all came into the world butt naked and their peripheral vision of life is a stark contrast to my norm. Fascinates me. And without a shadow of a doubt, I intend to explore.

What is Constant Fernweh?

According to good ol’ Google, the term Fernweh elevates the desire of travel to an actual human need. The term Wanderlust loosely means you want to travel but Fernweh means you physically feel much better when your out and about, and not at home. I consider myself borderline.

This blog will be an indispensable resource of my past stories, my current adventures, my tips and tricks and anything else serving as a one stop shop for future reference. In 30 years, I’ll be able to look back and say”Heck, I really lived!” and for my incredible readers, I hope I can dish up some education, information and inspiration for my Hijabi sisters who think they can’t. I’m here to tell you, you can.
